Reflecting on 2024, Looking to 2025

Alexia O'Rourke

Dear fintech entrepreneurs,

2024 has been a good year. We won a significant project with Kroll, the experience gained on this project enables us to assist with the solvent wind down of other lending companies. In Q3, we launched LendCart.co.uk, a property investment platform, that allows for multiple tiers of seniority, thereby allowing lenders to choose between five tiers of risk vs reward. The clearing feature also allows for effective liquidity management, on a normally illiquid investment. Finally, the BuyBack Guarantee Feature on rebuildingsociety has worked well, a bit too well, we need more loans!

Internationally, we’ve seen significant interest from the Middle East and we hope to announce our first client in the region very soon.

Unfortunately, we’ve also seen a few challenges; Cybersecurity risks are increasing in frequency and severity. We are working on making various cybersec improvements, but we are also noticing various high-profile hacks, along with the increase in insurance premiums.

Soon after the budget, Rachel Reeves announce support for the Fintech Sector and invited firms to submit evidence to support growth in the sector. I submitted a response asking for various policy improvements, as well as support for fintech skills and assistance for Fintech North.

The UK regulator has set out its roadmap for regulating crypto, which involves 1 year of discussion, 1 year of consultation & 6 months of policy making. It’s also encouraging to read the Law Commission’s report on Distributed Autonomous Organisations (DAOs). We believe that DAOs can play a key role in improving accountability, transparency and productivity from civil organisations.

There is a good convergence between crowdfunding and DAOs, I’ll write an article about it fairly soon, for now DAOs allow for a form of ‘treasury management’ through tokenisation. I foresee some civil policy and organisations being facilitated by DAOs. It will be interesting to see how this space evolves.

Finally, we’ve launched a new product, the self-crowdfunding platform, this allows firms to raise capital and manage investor relations. We’re developing this with our first client and will announce more very soon.

We wish you a prosperous 2025, good luck with all your crowdfunding efforts!
